i discovered california based furniture designer & artist Sean Woolsey through FvF who did a great profile of his home yesterday. what really intrigued me was his website that showcases his pieces in such a fun way. it’s so normal to see designer furniture in a cold and static setting, but seeing a kid in spiderman costume pouring cereal milk onto the surface of a beautiful table is so rad. i also really love his artwork, which he creates on cold rolled sheet metal & mixed materials including paints, patinas and water based acids.
Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy, is a large influence on my work and life. It recognizes a beauty of things imperfect which bear the imprint of time. Wabi Sabi is about the minor and the hidden, the tentative and the ephemeral. It finds true beauty in the organic. My art is inspired by my travels and photos that I take while traveling around the world and documenting my adventures. Every art piece comes with a print of the photo that I took that inspired me to make it, whether it be the colors, patterns, textures, or memory.
