i think that many of us can relate to Soppy, a set of illustrations by Philippa Rice about the everyday minutiae within a relationship that actually mean so much. based on her relationship with illustrator Luke Pearson, she’s been sharing them on her blog since 2013 and they are now available as 112 page book.
Soppy is the illustrated love story of author Philippa Rice and her real-life boyfriend. True love isn’t always about the big romantic gestures. Sometimes it’s about sympathizing with someone whose tea has gone cold or reading together and sharing a quilt. When two people move in together, it soon becomes apparent that the little things mean an awful lot. The throwaway moments in life become meaningful when you spend them in the company of someone you love.
I adore Soppy! She’s an amazing illustrator and really gets relationships.
I already knew the comics, but I didn’t knew there was a book. Thanks for the tip! This is going on my birthday wishlist ;-).
Those small moments in a relationship are everything. These illustrations are spot on!!!
this just got me right in the ticker : ‘ )
I had never seen any of her work before.. and love it! Thanks for putting it on my radar, and for all the work you put into your treasure-chest of a blog.
questi siamo io e il mio compagno <3
pefect vday gift for my hubby! <3
This looks wonderful. I was worried it was going to be idealized. And then, it wasn’t. Brilliant.
I’m sitting with such a stupid grin on my face! My favourite is where her hubby washes the dishes and she eats a piece of toast – totally a scene from our kitchen! :)
Oh I love these illustrations! The book has been on my wishlist for a little while now :)
Sweet
I just picked this up over the weekend and savored it on a short flight. It was beautiful and tender and made me tear up a few times. Philippa Rice is a wonderful artist.
