hi, i’m back! i have a mass of photos to work through from our trip to Tanzania, but you can check out what i have posted so long on Instagram. while i was away i realised that the U.S. was also on a holiday of sorts, and so in the spirit of the 4th of July i thought i’d share this cool collection of vintage photographs from the 70s by Flip Schulke.

One of the nation’s premier photojournalists, Flip Schulke spent decades chronicling the triumphs and tragedies of American life. He was born in 1930 and began taking photographs as a high school student in New Ulm, Minnesota – where he acquired his distinctive nickname “Flip” from an early interest in gymnastics. After graduating he settled in Florida, where he had spent part of his childhood. Flip covered the Cuban revolution of Fidel Castro, space launches, hurricanes, and leading entertainers and athletes of the time.
