remember when you were a kid at the beach, and you wandered around the rock pools searching for treasure – and then you found a sea anemone… and you wanted to, needed to, stick your finger in it? you didn’t know what’s going to happen! but you, like, really really needed to find out. that’s the first thought i had when i saw these intricate ceramic creations by Israeli artist Zemer Peled.
Zemer Peled’s work examines the beauty and brutality of the natural world. Her sculptural language is formed by her surrounding landscapes and nature, engaging with themes of nature and memories, identity and place. Her works are formed of thousand of ceramic shards constructed into large-scale/small-scale sculptures and installations.
some of them look like flowers, others like sea anemones, some even remind me of the dreaded Sarlacc. but, you know, in a nice way. see more of her work at her website.
