at this time of year i am met with imagery of “The Holidays” everywhere online – snowy winter scapes, white dusted christmas trees, mulled wine, fireplaces and simply every possible variation of a typical holiday season. you see it in articles in your Facebook timeline and in the holiday gift guides that pop up on your Pinterest feed. i always end up thinking to myself – this is not MY holiday season. and probably not the the holidays of people living anywhere below the equator. for us…
our holiday season is summer time.
our holiday season is the smell of sunscreen.
our holiday season is eating watermelon by the pool in your swimsuit before noon.
our holiday season is lazing in the sun and falling asleep in the shade.
our holiday season is new beach bats in your Christmas stocking.
our holiday season is building sand castles, not snowmen.
our holiday season is seafood BBQs and ice cold white wine.
our holiday season is hikes in mountains and swimming in rock pools.
our holiday season is melting ice cream and warm fresh strawberries.
our holiday season is outdoor dinners under fairy lights.
our holiday season is long, hot road trips in airconditioned cars.
our holiday season is more #hotdogsorlegs in your Instagram feed than you can shake a stick at.
our holiday season is trying to avoid the Boxing Day crowds that flock to the beaches.
our holiday season is sundowners with a sea view at every opportunity.
these are all pics i’ve taken during our holidays over the past few years (including some vintage gems of my dad and i on Christmas day). only one more week and i can start adding to these photos and memories. happy holidays everyone…

i love this diana! and i love your beautiful smiling face at the end :)
I grew up in the American south, where the holiday weather was warm, but we faked our way through “Frosty the Snowman” and drinking hot cocoa anyway. Your view is much better!
Lovely!! Now, what is a beach bat?? :-)
I don’t think I had seen your picture before. Love all the photos
I love all of the photos, but most of all the last one of you looking astonishingly happy, with a goofy grin on your face. The best.
I love @miss_moss’s photos of a sunnier holiday season, https://t.co/dXkiAqQ4ZX. It looks a bit like our first California holiday season!
Yes! I’m realising more and more how unique our South African holidays are – some wonderful memories and pics here.
OH being in the cold, I’m absolutely jealous of your holidays!
Thanks for the glimpse of warmth!
Blue-blue skies, deep azure seas … sunny South Africa. I love the pic of you (I presume?) in your pink outfit – are those the Knysna Heads in the background? Are you on the Brenton side?
Ah I’m with you.
A warm, cosy, and snowy Christmas is nothing but a dream here in the Southern Hemisphere haha!
What a great reminder that the world is so much bigger & varied than we realize sometimes! Happy Holiday season!
Yes! Christmas will always be ice cold champagne or white wine and a huge plate of oysters and fanning yourself in the heat. New Years is camping and skinny dipping and bonfires on the beach. Wouldn’t trade it for all the cozy, white christmases in the world.
this is lovely
Living in Florida I can relate to this too. No hot cocoa or snowmen for us! Christmas lights on palm trees and bon fires on the beach is what I relate to the Holiday season now! (p.s. you look so beautiful in your picture!)
Your holidays sound wonderful.
I love the sentimental values attached to them.
lovely! especially the warm light and all that water… super cute pic of you and your hubby!
This is great! I moved from the US to Argentina 6 years ago. Getting used to winter in July and summer in January has been an adjustment, especially because it often seems like the Internet is made for and by the Northern Hemisphere. Your holidays look amazing.
Beautiful photos. Beautiful blog! So glad I stumbled upon it!
