the one thing i’m pretty excited about right now, besides actually meeting our baby, is the prospect of wearing “normal” clothes again. i have been rotating the same 5 pieces for what feels like, well, 9 months – and i’m ready to dip into my usual wardrobe. so when designer Jill Sawatzky contacted me about her new summer 2016 collection for Tony Chestnut, which was designed with a changing pregnant body in mind, i thought it was pretty serendipitous indeed.

i’ve chosen to work with beautiful, ethically sourced linen, and the textile has turned out to also be the biggest inspiration behind the collection. i love linen’s ability to look both slightly dishevelled and classically cool simultaneously; and it’s ability to maintain volume and proportions with it’s structure, but also to drape effortlessly. i’ve based the garments in my most recent collection on these contradictions – most of the pieces are inspired by casual loungewear, and can be worn with minimal simplicity, or as a super dope take-on-the-day power ensemble.

these were the garments that i wished i had had when i was pregnant with my boys. to wear while i was big and huge and pregnant, then while breastfeeding and wrangling a baby, and then to continue wearing when i started feeling like myself again. the model was 10 weeks pregnant when we did the photoshoot – which was a beautiful and unexpected surprise, it felt special to know that this photoshoot could one day be a sort of time capsule for her child.

the collection can be viewed at her website & shop (available for purchase on May 16). and follow her on Instagram for regular giveaways! photos by Meg Kroeker using medium format film on a Kiev 60.
