we live in an old house, which we think may have been built sometime in the 1930s. even though we’d like to renovate some day there are still many vintage elements in the house that we’d like to keep. so i’m always interested to see how architects and interior designers update old houses, without destroying their vintage souls. i thought the remodel of this 19th century house in Bordeaux, by French architects Fusion D, was a pretty great example of that. i especially love the kids rooms, and that bathroom is really fun.

  1. Thank you for this post! So many home remodels seem completely out of reach. This remodel was done very well, but there is so much inspiration for someone looking to redesign a space on a budget. I love the simplicity of their home. Beautiful!

  2. Love love the tone on tone paint which includes the molding. The previous house I lived at in Halifax Nova Scotia was an attached Georgian (~1855) duplex with similar features. One of my landlords next door was an architect so it had lots of flattering, *respectful* upgrades. She actually used a lot of similar blues throughout with a lot of white tile as well. It’s cool to go with chalk/milk paint or if regular paint go semi-gloss! My house now has a lot of wood and is semi-gloss BM Simly White all over!

  3. As an architect, let me give you the advice that a old house always should be renovated in a reversible way! You may change colours of the walls, furniture or windows, but I wouldn’t change floors as you’ll never afford such a good quality wood like on these pictures again. Be careful to not change your bathroom according to your pinterest but choosing something timeless, asking ourself: Would I have liked it 10 years ago? If yes, go for it!

  4. Hi there!

Just found your blog through a google-search on the history of the Chinese money plant (great story, btw!) and I’m so glad I found your blog, love your posts!

    hugs from the Netherlands

  5. You couldn’t tell me what Colour you used on the woodwork in the hallway could you. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more fabulous!!
