today it hit 40C in London. the hottest summer on record. possibly the last thing people in the UK are thinking about is weird ice-cream flavours (they want air-conditioning and an end to global warming, possibly). but maybe it will take their mind off things. you can find some weird combos at Anya Hindmarch’s summer pop-up The Ice Cream Project, which is found in Chelsea Village.
“A soy sauce ice cream ripples Kikkoman through a sesame base, creating a nutty, umami contrast. The mayonnaise rendition doesn’t try and overdo it, instead focussing on the brightness of lemon and vinegar against a rich base. And Lea and Perrins goes full Bloody Mary, making a tomato sorbet just aggressed by the honk of fermented anchovy and tamarind. Yes, the baked bean flavour is beyond all hope. Yes, this is a summertime tribute to the canniness of marketing and the inescapable pull of nostalgia on capital. And yes, it’s all actually in service of Hindmarch’s new bag collection. But it also has a bit of thought behind it, and that’s something.” – Eater
I would actually be interested in sampling all the flavours…! The worcestershire sauce one really does look delicious. If you’re in London you can visit the ice-cream project here, and see the bags that inspired the pop-up here.
