Staying at Babylonstoren

Babylonstoren by Miss Moss

earlier this year i was lucky enough to be invited to stay at the Babylonstoren Farm Hotel, and so Anton and i went to celebrate our anniversary in style. i’ve been there many times before and have enjoyed wandering through their unbelievable garden as well as eating lunch at Babel. but i’ve never dreamed of staying there, mostly because it would be a bit of splurge for us and it’s only 45 minutes away. does it count as a getaway if you live around the corner? turns out it does… at Babylonstoren.

Summer at The Table

The Table photographed by Miss Moss

last year i took some new photos at The Table to use on their website. i love the casual flowers that are always such a sweet feature on their tables (all thanks to Jess’ husband Luke!) – they remind me of the colourful flowers that they had at their wedding. we ate the most delicious twice baked cheese souffle and some kind of gorgeous homemade ice cream – the flavour of which escapes me now, but the mmm-memory remains. The Table is open on the weekends, and you have to book because they are naturally insanely popular. if you haven’t visited yet, what are you waiting for?

Clouds

yesterday we celebrated our one year wedding anniversary and as a serious treat we spent a night at Clouds Estate outside Stellenbosch. we stayed here just after our wedding, so it was special for us to return, and of course just amazing to get to spend time at this exquisite location.

The Table

you will no doubt remember my old friend Jessica from various posts on the blog, as well as her and husband Luke’s wonderful restaurant Nook in Stellenbosch. after some busy & hectic years they sold Nook and moved to the country for a while, but it wasn’t long before ideas began brewing for their next venture – and that came in the form of The Table at De Meye. already an established eatery, the previous owners Russell and Camilla were sad to sell this little piece of heaven in the winelands – but Jess & Luke planned to continue the tradition of family-style dining inspired by local & seasonal ingredients.

le picnique

picnics might usually be associated with spring & summer, but autumn in the winelands (and south africa in general) is pretty much perfect outdoor weather in my mind. you can sit in the sun without getting hot, i mean – what’s better than that? yesterday i was driving with the window down and there was that yummy autumn smell in the air… it made me think about times spent lazing the day away on the grass somewhere. preferably eating some kind of cheese.
